About Us

The Moonlight Diner opened in 1962 on Creek Road, Harlan's Creek. It has not closed since. Not once. Not for renovations, not for severe weather, not for any of the events that have occasionally required us to draw the blinds and ask patrons to remain seated until further notice.

We serve breakfast all day. Our blue plate specials rotate weekly. Our coffee is bottomless. We have never run out of coffee. We do not intend to start now.

The original owner, Harold "Bud" Reeves, operated the diner from 1962 until 1987, at which point ownership transferred to the current management under circumstances that are a matter of public record, though the relevant documents are held by the Caldwell County clerk's office and are not available for online viewing.

We have served every sheriff, every mayor, every pastor, and every stranger who walked through that door not knowing quite why they stopped. We have never turned anyone away. We do not intend to start now.

Fog Night Policy: During periods of reduced visibility in Harlan's Creek, the Moonlight Diner extends complimentary coffee to all patrons for the duration of the event. Patrons are welcome to remain until conditions improve. We are experienced with extended stays. We have never had to ask anyone to leave during a fog event. We have occasionally had to ask people to stay.

The diner seats 42. Booth seating is first-come, first-served, with the exception of the corner booth by the east window, which is reserved. It has always been reserved. We ask that you respect this.

Donna Reeves
Manager
Donna has managed the Moonlight since 1994. She knows every regular's order, every booth's quirks, and which nights to keep the blinds down. She has never been asked to explain the corner booth and has never volunteered to.

Ray Hollis
Head Cook
Ray has worked the kitchen since 2001. He maintains the original 1962 recipes with modifications only where ingredients are no longer available. When asked what he replaced certain items with, Ray says the flavour profile is the same. He does not elaborate further.

Terri Ann Moss
Senior Server
Terri Ann has been serving tables at the Moonlight since 2008. Families consistently note her warmth and her ability to appear at exactly the right moment with a coffee refill. She has received three commendations from the Harlan's Creek Chamber of Commerce, none of which she is able to discuss publicly.

Junior Polk
Overnight Cook
Junior works the overnight shift, Thursday through Sunday. He has worked overnight at the Moonlight for eleven years. He does not discuss what he has seen during that time. He is, by all accounts, completely fine.
